Yes: During the first trimester, it is best to have only procedures that are absolutely necessary. During the 2nd and 3rd trimester, it is usually safe to have most procedures performed. It is especially important to have healthy gums. Some studies indicate an increased risk for premature. Low birth weight babies when mom's gums are infected. Pregnancy increases the risk of gum disease.

See what needs to be done, then have your dentist discussed proposed treatment with your obstetrician. There are some basic safeguards that need to be followed. Not getting some dental treatment done can also be harmful to both you and your unborn child. It can all be worked out.
