Best advice: Do not hesitate, head for an emergency department. Time is of the essence, as tpa (alteplase) infusion works best within the first 3 hrs, and most er docs are very experienced in use of tpa (alteplase) these days.

Time is brain: If you or someone you encounter is having signs or symptoms of a stroke, the most important thing is seeking care immediately. Call 911 and get to an er as fast as possible. Depending on the site or center, there are a number of options and interventions based on the cause of the symptoms. Do not delay.
