A member asked:

What can you do to tell the difference between swine flu and regular old flu?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No big difference: Every year a different strain of influenza predominates. Some years it is called swine flu because it is thought to originate from pigs. Other strains may originate with birds. In any year there are more than one strain, so if you get the flu, there is no way to know whether it is the 'swine' variety or another.
