What is synovitis?

8 doctors weighed in across 4 answers

Inflamation: The synovium is part of the lining of a joint. It produces fluid that helps lubricate the joint and keep it moving smoothly. Synovitis is inflamation of the synovial tissue. It may be caused by infection or by chronic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. Untreated it can cause lasting joint damage. If you have pain and swelling in a joint or joints see an orthopedist or rheumatologist
