Small risks: Donating a kidney doesn't protect you from any diseases you are programmed to get in the future. However, if you are healthy when you donate, surgical risks and future disease risks are small. There is a small increase in hypertension and urine protein in donors compared to others. The risk of future kidney disease is not zero, but less than the general age matched population.
