The global: "metformin prevents cancer" may be an optimistic early view, and in opposition to the "glitazone" issue (avandia, actos) that might be associated with cancer. The early statement was for pancreas cancer. Metformin is a very useful anti-diabetic drug, helps with weight loss, but not a cancer panacea.
