Warm compresses: A "stye, " a.K.A. Hordeolum, is a plugged oil gland in the eyelid, sort of like a pimple. Most of the time, it can be effectively treated with warm compresses. These loosen the oils and allow them to be expressed from the lid. If persistent, a hordeolum can become a chalazion, which often needs either a steroid injection or surgical excision. See an ophthalmologist to be sure.
