Fiber fiber fiber: Piles or hemorrhoids are a western phenomena associated with low-fiber diets and anything that increases intra-abdominal pressure such as constipation (#1), obesity, chronic cough, pregnancy or weight lifting. Often adding 5-10g of insoluble fiber (benefiber is tasteless, odorless, and can be dissolved in almos anything) will shrink and pull up all but the worst cases.

Hemorrhoids: The three s's approach (the way students learn in med school): 1. The anus must be kept clean and soft. This is known as soaking. Sitting in a sitz bath or using wet wipes to lessen irritation. 2. Soften the stool: one must not 'bear' down to get stool out. This would increase the blood clot size and thus the hemorrhoid and three: steroid creams to shrink the hemorrhoid.

Yes: Hemorrhoids (piles) are normal veins in the anal canal. They can become inflamed or enlarged with constipation or prolonged and repeated straining to have a bowel movement. Treated at home by avoiding constipation, drink plenty of liquids, eat more fiber (fruits, vegetables, metamucil), avoid junk foods. See a surgeon if symptoms persist.

Hemorrhoid care: It is important not to make hemorrhoids worse. Cleaning off after a bowel movement should be gentle. Pre-moistened towlettes can be used to dab the anus. Don’t wipe/rub. Pat the anus dry after cleaning. Avoid using harsh soaps that contain dyes or aromas. Cotton underwear is helpful as it absorbs moisture well. Sitz bathes can be helpful. Sit in a bathtub with warm water. There needs to >.

Hemorrhoids: Hemorrhoids are very common. They occur from a stasis of blood flow in the blood vessels that go to our lower intestines. As you get older you are less active and sit for longer periods of time. Do not sit on the toilet to read. Use a soft wet type of tissue for wiping. Over the counter medicated pads may help with inflammation. See doctor if worsens. Exercise and eat fiber.

Can be uncomfortable: Stay well hydrated (at least 8 - 8 ounces glasses of water per day). Try to get in 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day – get that fiber in. Stay physically active if possible. There are a number of over the counter laxatives that can be taken orally to help pass retained fecal matter.

That's an old term: for hemorrhoids.Hemorrhoids are dialated veins around the anus.Frequently, women who have given birth vaginally have them due to the pushing durring childbirth. Also, people with frequent constipation also develop them due to this same effect of pushing ( valsalva manouver ),which increases the pressure in the venous system, resulting in dialated anal veins.
