Many: Loss of bone density, hormonal changes such as fatigue, loss of libido, immune suppression, dependence, possibility of addiction to name a few of the more common ones, list is extensive, need routine monitoring, can be safe if used as directed and in the course of a multi-modal program which emphasizes restoration of function and not just pain control.

dependancy: Long term use of any narcotic will produce dependency, meaning if you stop it you will have withdrawal symptoms. Narcotics can be addicting in some patients and in many people who are using them when not prescribed. The Acetaminophen component in hydrocodone formulations is toxic to the liver in moderate to high doses. Side effects are usually transient except constipation which must be managed.
