For/against: Against: 1. Not all mental health conditions require psychotropic medications & there can be significant side effect potential. For: some mental health illnesses will not respond without psychotropic medications. It can improve function and quality of life.

Wrong question. :-): This kind of argument is far too global to be helpful or realistic. A more applicable & realistic question is whether a given person, with a given mental illness, needs a particular medication at a specific time. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, in discussion with the patient (and family, if appropriate). The idea is to diminish suffering and support health as much as possible.
