Tonsillectomy risks : The number 1 most common risk of tonsillectomy is bleeding. I do think that smoking increases the risk of bleeding. It also increases the likelihood of nausea, which could ultimately lead to dehydration because of poor fluid intake. Over the long haul, we also know that smoking increases the risk of mouth and throat cancers, but this has little or no relation to having having tonsils out.
