Many causes: If your potassium level is high, possible reasons may include a medication such as an ace inhibitor, or a potassium sparing diuretic. If kidney function is impaired, potassium may also be elevated. All patients would be recommended for a low potassium diet; some may be recommended a diuretic therapy such as with lasix (furosemide). Too high of a level can be life threatening with heart rhythm problems.
