A member asked:

What can you do to tell depression from the winter blues?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Seasonal: With winter blues (seasonal affective disorder) symptoms gradually start in the fall when the days shorten. They come on in full force with winter and then begin to resolve once spring arrives. Depression has no seasonal component. It can happen without any reason at all. For some it can be very severe and impairs their ability to function.
