Scar: A keloid is just a prominent scar. Some people simply get more prominent scars when they are injured; it is not dangerous or a sign of something more serious. Treating keloids, however, can be difficult, as trying to cut them out can sometimes cause more scarring. There are treatments such as steroid injections, laser or other; see your primary care provider or a dermatologist.

Keloids: It is unknown exactly what the cause or trigger for this abnormal scarring process is. Delicate handling of the tissue, removable sutures and good would and incision care are the first line of treatment. If you are forming keloids your doctor may recommend using silicone sheets or may choose to inject a steroid into the scar. There are some newer treatments such as Imiquimod that are effective.
