A member asked:

3 months breastfed baby is now sleeping for 4 hours straight at night, when will she start sleeping 5-6 hours & is it safe not to feed for that long?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible now: Infants > 10 lb & taking well during the day can often sleep 5-6 hours or more at night.Few sleep > 4hrs without arousing and self settling but if allowed to they can resettle without a feed. The trick seems to come from day feedings that occur as they wake, not as part of settling to sleep.Kids that are fed as part of the sleep ritual cannot resettle without a feed & have delays in this milestone.
