To detect a bleed in the brain- CT without contrast is done initially in ERs. CT and MRI are equally as sensitive for bleeds, but CT is quicker and less expensive. Blood readily can be visualized on a Brain MRI, and typically, ERs use CAT scanning to rule in or out bleeding due to speed and convenience.
