IN an otherwise healthy person -yes. Hb. is the substance in side the red blood cells which carries oxygen to all parts of the body. So if it is low ( and there can be many reasons for it to be) not enough oxygen reaches the body tissues. It needs to be further looked into for the cause. Wish you well.

The normal Hb level for males is 14 to 18 g/dl; that for females is 12 to 16 g/dl. Low hemoglobin means: reduced production of red blood cells(RBC), increased destruction of RBC or increased loss of RBC. If you have low hemoglobin discuss with your clinician to find what it means for you because it could be diffferent from one person to another. Red blood cell level is measured by hemoglobin.
