Hydroquinone is used to lighten the skin in treating cases of hyperpigmentation (skin darkening). However, in high concentrations or with long-term use, it can actually darken the skin. So, if you are experiencing skin darkening from hydroquinone, it is time to stop it and get in touch with the physician who prescribed it so an alternative treatment can be used, if needed, when safe to do so.
