A member asked:

Hi a little confused i have read and been told most warts go away on their on in about 2 years. some drs are saying they will never go away without treatment is this true? i would rather not have to go to the dr if they will eventually go away. help?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Warts come from a family of skin surface dwelling strains that remain superficial enough that they don't trigger the immune system quickly like a systemic virus/flu/etc. Eventually a person will shed skin or genital warts after a couple years, but I have known patients that did not for a decade. When they become enough of an irritant, have them removed. Self healing is not a predictable event.
