What is patchy opacification of the mastoid air cells caused by? i know it could be from an ear infection but i currently do not have an ear infection. could this be from past ear infections as a child?

Patchy opacification can be seen not only in ear infections, but in fluid accumulations years after. Assuming that you had this test because of some kind of symptoms, you should follow up with the Dr who ordered this test for an appropriate diagnosis based on your history and symptoms and next steps or treatment.
