A member asked:

Can highly increased level of vitamin d due to supplements cause permanent damage to parathyroid glands? or does it have no effect on your parathyroid glands?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vitamin D in the blood decreases the release of Parathyroid Hormone. That is a normal process that occurs all the time. There is no damage from that process. However, excess consumption of vitamin D is problematic (4000 IU), the levels can become toxic, and it may cause any of the following symptoms: Nausea, Vomiting, Constipation, Lack of appetite, Weakness, Weight loss.
