A member asked:

I am 63 and very active, still work outdoors. i like to walk, hike, ride 4 wheelers, an outdoorsman. i will have to have an ankle fusion or tar. my joints around the ankle have minimal arthritis. hard decision, opinions?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

When considering any surgery one question to ask yourself… will this improve the quality of my life. Will this allow me to participate in activity that makes you happy for maybe only a short period of time. Yes arthritis is a complication to joint distal and proximal to the fusion. Talk with your surgeon. Talk about expectations after surgery. Bottom line. Your decision. Good luck.
