You have HSV1. So do half of all adults in the US. Most likely your infection is oral, but it could be genital. If you're not having recurrent outbreaks (oral cold sores, genital herpes lesions) probably you never will and there is little or no risk of infecting anyone else. If you develop a cold sore or an unexplained genital sore, avoid contact like kissing (oral) or sex (genital) until healed.
