If a corn kernel is inhaled, it usually will stimulate a cough reflex which often results in a successful clearing of the trachea and bronchi of the kernel. If it does not, one usually has a persistent cough. In this case, it's best to go to the nearest emergency dept. for an exam by an Ear, Nose and Throat doc, or immediately see an otolaryngologist. The corn can be removed if cough persists.
