Can i drink alcohol while taking metrogel vaginal gel?

I would avoid it. The absorption of the medication into the blood of this gel is not as much through vaginal membranes as it would be if you take it in pill form. However, your body can develop a very nauseating reaction if even a small amount of the med enters your blood.

For 50 years there was a belief that alcohol and metronidazole (by mouth) don't mix, resulting in nausea and vomiting. More recent knowledge is that it was always a myth: there is no interaction. CDC's latest (2021) STI treatment guidelines say "refraining from alcohol use while taking metronidazole...is unnecessary". Certainly there is no problem for alcohol and vaginal treatment with Metrogel.
