Autoimmune disease: Lupus(systemic lupus erythematosus) is an autoimmune disease in which a person's immune system becomes "confused" and starts attacking a person's own healthy organs as if they were foreign or infected. There are inherited genes that can increase your risk for lupus, but it must be set off by one or more environmental triggers such as common viral infection(s) that can manipulate the immune system.
