It is not likely to cause any long-term harm since the exposure time was only a few minutes. Short-term, it can cause bronchospasm which can lead to shortness of breath but that would happen in the moment. It is less likely to happen if the exposure is outside rather than indoors. Certainly you want to try to avoid secondhand smoke, but it was only for a few minutes, even if it was intense, it should not do any long-term damage. I applaud your efforts to stay away from secondhand cigarette smoke. Good luck.
