Enteroccous faecalis repeatedly showing in urine culture and pcr tests despite amoxicillin (5 days) and macrobid treatment ( 7 day and 5 day courses). it is shown to be susceptible to these antibiotics on testing. thoughts?

Amoxicillin and nitrofurantoin often are not effective against E. faecalis, even when susceptible to them by standard testing. (The technical terminology is that such strains are "tolerant" of these and other antibiotics despite susceptibility by standard tests.) Selecting effective treatment can be challenging. Ask your doctor about consultation with an infectious diseases specialist. Good luck.
