If cholesterol is 199 but had heart attack 8 months ago and 2 stents, plus another artery blocked but too small for stent, should my husband take statin? he's worried about taking one?

The best doctor to answer this for your husband is his cardiologist who knows his clinical scenario the best. It also depends on what his other lipid values are-like his LDL and triglycerides. If the cardiologist is recommending a statin, then it is likely to be of benefit. He can also see a nutritionist to get his diet as healthy as possible. Best of luck to both of you!

Hyperlipidemia ( high cholesterol,high LDL,low HDL&,high triglycerides) is only one predisposing factor in coronary artery disease. Smoking,family history,hypertension are also important. When we see a coronary patient without these risk factors, we check for high homocysteine levels. I'm a believer in high dose statins like crestor for patients like your husband irrespective of lipid levels.
