The urine is likely slimy because of mucus like you suspected however the mucus may be from the other genital organs like the testes and seminiferous glands rather than only from the kidneys and bladder. The mucus is independent of hydration and you have not provided information to get a sense of your hydration status but it is good to make sure you are always well hydrated.

This is an unusual symptom possibilities include discharge from your penis from STD type infection or something like Vaseline or KY jelly you’re using in the area. If you have discharge or discomfort or exposure to STDs, recommend in person evaluation by primary care physician for diagnosis and treatment.
