Long delays in menstruation may result from poly-cystic ovarian syndrome, where ovulation is not regularly occurring, and higher ovarian estrogen b/c of stimulation of the ovaries by the pituitary, may cause thickened endometrial lining, with withdrawal bleeding due to varied estrogen levels.
