Children often hit their heads on things. If behaving differently after a mild injury, a child can be evaluated by her primary doctor. Sometimes an ER visit is needed depending on the symptoms, such as for REPEATED VOMITING. Head bumps in which there is low-impact on the head, little crying, no changes in behavior and no headache after the first hour, etc..., usually don't cause internal injuries.

Her alertness at the time of the accident and in the first 24 hours is important information. She should follow up with a Pediatrician. During the visit a detailed Physical exam, including Neurologic exam is indicated. Watch for signs of dizziness, vomiting, vision changes and imbalance. If these occur, please see the Emergency room. Keep her well hydrated with small amounts of clear fluids.
