Recurrent HSV1 outbreaks almost always are outside the mouth and canker sores are not caused by HSV. Painless blister-like bumps (i.e. containing clear fluid), called mucoceles, are common in the mouth. The result from temporary blockage of mucus gland ducts and have nothing to do with herpes. You can effectively treat actual HSV1 outbreaks by promply taking a large dose (2 g) of valayclovir.
