When thinking of heart muscle damage after a myocardial infarction, we think of ventricular remodeling with hypertrophy & fibrosis which can lead to heart failure depending upon the extent of such remodeling. ACE inhibitors as well as ARBs like irbesartan, take strain off the heart muscle which is somewhat protective & modulates the harmful process of remodeling.
