In the United States there are different ways we screen for Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21) and Edwards Syndrome (Trisomy 18), and it can include an ultrasound and blood tests. If the tests are positive or indicates high risk, additional testing, sometimes invasive sampling, may be offered. It would be a good conversation to have with your OB to determine your level of risk and desire to test.
