A member asked:

Is there any substitute test for videofluoroscopy/ barium swallowing test for kids with swallowing issues that not involved the use of radiation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The study records the movements of various muscle groups involved in swallowing in a way it can be recorded and reviewed on many occasions. If the issues involved are important, the minor radiation risk is worthwhile. I know of no current studies that replicate the quality of information gained by this one.
