A member asked:

I recently had a mri & on the report it states, a few scattered punctate foci of increased flair signal in the cerebral white matter are nonspecific, & most frequently seen in the setting of chronic microangiopathic changes. what does this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The interpretation is nonspecific and nondiagnostic. Clinical correlation with your doctor is key. Possible reasons for the lesions include smoking, migraine, prior head injuries, demyelinating disorders, small blood vessel disease, congenital issues, use of various recreational drugs, etc. Perhaps you can discuss the MRI with the radiologist?
