A member asked:

Mri of right shoulder findings says normal variant os acromiale. very small glenohumeral joint effusion. trace fluid in the subacromial-subdeltoid bursa. can someone explain what this means? it doesnt seem like much. i have shoulder pain all day?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Os Acromiale is essentially an unfused area of calcification in the shoulder joint. This condition is commonly associated with impingement of the shoulder muscles and rotator cuff tendonitis (inflammation of one of the rotator cuff muscles). The effusion is swelling within the joint space. The bursa is a pad that protects the muscle from rubbing on the bone. Hope this helps.
