Sciatica signifies irritation of the sciatic nerve either in the lumbosacral cistern or far less commonly, the peripheral buttock area, almost always due to compression. Symptoms start with pain, and include numbness, weakness, and occasionally difficulty urinating. Autonomic problems with perspiration would not be a typical accompaniment.
