The main cause of strong vaginal odor is a condition called bacterial vaginosis, caused by overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. It requires a doctor visit to confirm the diagnosis; the antibiotic metronidazole usually is effective treatment. STDs are more common in women with BV; testing is recommended for gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomonas. Good luck.
