A member asked:

I had a saline ultrasound just to follow a tiny polyp(not for fertility). obgyn said it was fine to do on my period & that my uterine polyp is gone. my uterus is beatiful. how accurate is a saline us on cycle day 4 of your period(bleeding lightly)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The saline ultrasound usually gives a clear picture and a small amount of blood will not interfere. A negative study is very reassuring. While no study should be considered 100% sensitive, polyps in menstruating women like yourself are relatively common and usually resolve spontaneously.
