Usually not. Oral contraceptives generally keep the endometrium (lining of the womb) at minimal levels as part of its' protective value. When breakthrough bleeding occurs it is usually spotty or minimal bleeding. Heavy bleeding needs to be evaluated by a GYN MD for duration and character. See one soon if that is the case.
