A member asked:

Someone i know has hepatitis b, can i contract it without sexual intercourse? such as can it be transferred through saliva if she touches her mouth then touches an object before i do? or through casual contact?

This germ does not transfer by casual contact like a staph or strep bacteria. Sex, a needle stick with a needle carrying the virus, are ways this spreads. Avoid these types of exposures and you will be fine.

Hepatitis B is not spread through casual contact, but can spread through exposure to body fluids. If you are going to be sexually involved with this person, you should have a full set of hepatitis B vaccinations prior. Good luck.

Casual contact will not transmit Hep B, but sharing razors may. As Dr. Siebert advise, get Hep B vaccine.
