A member asked:

What happens to the breast tissue after its been studied through the cancer stages? do doctors just throw the tissue and nodes out? i know the tissue after its removed, gets sent to a pathology lab but do they just throw it out after everything?

Gross samples of the tissue are not immediately discarded but kept in a preservative in case additional testing, other labs or pathologists' exams are needed. I don't know how long these samples or pertinent sldes are kept however. Dr. Singh of Heathtap would be able to inform us further.

Informative part of the tissue is embedded in paraffin and processed for making slides. The slides and paraffin blocks are stored for decades. Any non-informative tissue is discarded after storing it for a few weeks.
