If you are sexually active and you are late for more than 5 days +/- spotting, do a pregnancy test with an early morning urine sample should be done first. If test is negative and you want to have your cycle regulated, you should see a GYN doctor for a thorough check-up. Take care and good luck to you.

If you had sex since your last period, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. http://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/menstruation/conditioninfo/Pages/causes
