Prior to the vaccine approval up to 70% of college age women tested positive for HPV. Acquisition can occur with a first sexual encounter. The 1st vaccines helped prevent 2 or 4 strains while the Gardasil 9 covers more than twice that amount. No vaccine is totally effective in preventing all HPV. You could have acquired it prior to the vaccine, acquired an uncovered strain or a break thru case.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. You may have acquired this infection prior to vaccination, or it may be a strain not covered by the vaccine. Do get repeat PAPs as advised by your doctor.
