The most common reason for nipple soreness under these circumstances is residual soap irritation from unrinsed bras retaining soap crystals or the use of a irritant soap when washing. Hand wash bras instead. Other reasons include excessive nipple stimulation, or nipple discharges. The amount of estrogen in the oral contraceptive pill is so small that breast soreness is uncommon from that cause
