hCG or human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone used to test for pregnancy by urine or serum . It can be detected as early as 6 days after ovulation or 8-10 days when the egg is transplanted. It is not a reliable test to determine gestational age, except in the first few weeks of pregnancy. hCG remains detectable until the birth of the fetus. It is also detected in testicular cancer
