A member asked:

I quit smoking 5 years ago. last month i started smoking on the weekends only, smoked around 8 packs during that month. now i quit again. did those 8 packs eliminate the recovery my body has made in the last 5 years of not smoking?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Debris from the cigarette smoke ends up in your lung and remains unless its self-cleaning system can remove it. You did not remove all benefits of quitting for those years, but you are well on your way to that outcome. If you can avoid them from now on your lungs will improve weekly and within 6 months, you may be where you were.
