An outpouring of neutrophils is the body's first response to an acute viral or bacterial infection. Rest up, drink lots of fluids including flat ginger ale to settle stomach,avoid roughage in your diet during diarrhea. Take kaopectate or imodium according to instructions if diarrhea isn't subsiding. Gradual improvement over a week or so is expected.
